Detailed Description

Business Impact: This vulnerability could allow remote code execution when a victim opens an office document or visits a malicious webpage which contain specially-crafted embedded fonts.  Successful exploitation of these issues would provide an attacker with complete control over the endpoint target.  The use of malicious web content, which could be easily integrated into an exploit for this vulnerability, has been prevalent in the past few years.

Technical Description:

Microsoft Windows is vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the Embeded OpenType Font Engine when parsing name tables. By persuading a victim to open a specially-crafted file containing EOT font embedded in the document, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system or cause the application to crash
