Detailed Description

Business Impact:

This vulnerability potentially affects all supported versions of Internet Explorer, with the exclusion of Internet Explorer 9 which is not affected. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability would provide an attacker with complete control of the victim's machine.  Targeted exploits are currently available and customers that are using the affected operating systems should consider immediate deployment of patches and protection for this issue.

Technical Description:

Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 6, 7 and 8 contain a remote code execution vulnerability caused by a defect in managing object lifetime which can be exploited by malicious script.  Targeted attacks against this vulnerability have been reported.  This critical issue has been resolved in the April 2011 update for Internet Explorer.
