| Business Impact: |
A recently disclosed weakness in hash table implementation can lead to denial of service conditions in web servers (such as those hosting ASP.Net applications). The most severe of these vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if an unauthenticated attacker sends a specially crafted web request to the target site. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take any action in the context of an existing account on the ASP.NET site, including executing arbitrary commands. |

| Technical Description |
A recently disclosed weakness in hash table implementation can lead to denial of service conditions in web servers (such as those hosting ASP.Net applications). Specifically, due to insufficient randomization attackers can create large numbers of hash table entries that collide, severely degrading the performance of the hash table. The hash tables may be used in many places such as storing HTTP POST parameters. In these cases a number of specially crafted POST requests can lead to a denial of service. The underlying vulnerability is in the hash table implementation itself and not restricted to a specific language or functional implementation however the most likely attack vectors are HTTP from POSTs against web servers which researchers have already deemed to be vulnerable. |
